Default ENGINE PACKAGES

i was looking into mti engine packages and wasn't sure what would be the best package to go with(if i were to get a really nice income tax return!) the 422 is way too expensive, the 382 all bore short block is going for $5000. i'm not sure how much for the 382 stroker, should be around the same. i'd like the engine to last quite some time, it would be a daily driver. they both claim 475-525 hp, don't know the torque ratings. which package do you guys think would be best for me, all bore or stroker?

I'd think the stroker would be cheaper, easier and more reliable? You should be able to use your stock block, with MTI's stroker crank... As opposed to buying a completely new block, or having your current one bored over accordingly.

However, I think the all bore 382 would make more power then the stroker, especially in the low end torque department. Which is really important when you're trying to move a big heavy truck; or if you ever plan to tow anything.

I just noticed that on the all bore 382 package, it includes MTI's Stage 3 ported LS1 heads... Whereas the 382 stroker package only includes their Stage 2 ported LS1 heads?

Also, if you're worried about reliability, MTI also provides a 1 year, 12K mile warranty (provided that the motor is installed by them).

You should also check out what ARE has to offer. They have a sligthly broader range of affordable all bore or stroker applications, from 382 to 388s on up. I think their all bore 382 long-block package is about $8,000 though.
