Engine Hot overheating at idle

You can buy it either way. Most come in a 50/50 mix or you can mix it yourself to a 50/50 or what I prefer a 60/40 or 65/35 mix. Buying straight coolant is generally cheaper as they charge you for half water in the 50/50 mixtures lol.

Top your coolant off and let it run with the radiator cap off for a little while, let the thermostat open and circulate the coolant and air bubbles out the radiator. Then top it off again and go for a drive, watch the coolant temp, if okay the coolant temp will stay normal. Just don't open the cap when it's hot, don't want to injure yourself and it may bubble some coolant out if there is some air in there.


It was -20 this morning here, I have to pre-mix down to -30 to -35 here.

Thank you everyone for the tips and advice! Turns out it was the water pump. All is good, no damage. Wind chill here is -22F

good deal. that isn't too hard of a fix and not too expensive. i think you can get the ac delco replacement pumps for about 150 and they even come with the gaskets you need.
