Engine choices for 99 silverado
#1
Woo! First Post!
OK, so I'm looking to start gathering info for a street & strip build on my '99 Silverado 1500. I currently have the 4.8 in it for a motor, but want to go bigger. I've seen swaps for the 5.3 done, but wanted to know what else will fit under the hood. 5.7, 6.0, or maybe even a big block 427 or a 454.

LS motor will drop right in and you can reuse the truck's harness, PCM, etc. BBC will require some fab work, such as motor mounts, tranny crossmember, driveshaft length, etc. You'll also need a different harness and PCM. It's alot of work, but I'll bet it can be done. One of our members here swapped a SBC in to replace his 4.3 in his NBS truck, there's a thread about it in the Projects section.
*EDIT* Almost forgot....Welcome to PT.net!

Ok then, that answers a few questions. Thanks!
I'm just trying to find out what engines will fit. I've worked with a lot of the old chevy SB motors before, muscle cars, old pickups and the like, but the newer LS and LQ motors and their applications kind of have me in a tail spin.
I guess my next questions would be these: 1) Will any of the LS motors fit? and 2) What's the difference between the LS and LQ motors?
So far I've read that the LQ4 is better for adding a supercharger to because of the lower compression. Any truth to that, or is the LQ9 still the better motor?
