I'm just trying to find out what engines will fit. I've worked with a lot of the old chevy SB motors before, muscle cars, old pickups and the like, but the newer LS and LQ motors and their applications kind of have me in a tail spin.

I guess my next questions would be these: 1) Will any of the LS motors fit? and 2) What's the difference between the LS and LQ motors?

So far I've read that the LQ4 is better for adding a supercharger to because of the lower compression. Any truth to that, or is the LQ9 still the better motor?
Any of the GENIII motors with the 24x reluctor wheel will be a direct swap, I believe that includes truck motors up to 07 classic.

The LQ motors (LQ4/LQ9) are 6.0 motors and are a direct swap that requires only that the PCM be retuned and the driveline should be able to handle the extra ponies (built trans, beef up the rear with a trutrac or eaton). The earlier LQ9's had stronger connecting rods that made them more desireable, but I believe in 05 they started putting the same rods in the LQ4's, hopefully someone will correct me if I'm wrong. The biggest difference between the LQ4's and 9's are the pistons...LQ4's have dished, and LQ9's are flat top. (this is where the difference in compression comes from) Generally, lower compression is more desireable for blown applications, but many have put superchargers on top of LQ9's.

Hope this helps

The same rules that u used on the old SBC engines apply to the LSX engines.
The only differences are the internals.
