I haven't heard of any complaints with the Blackbear harness. Should have mine soon. If anyone can screw this up it's me.

That is good! Do you still have premature failures on the generic 30A bosch units? The diode should help the life of the contacts big time.

I haven't started gathering parts for my e-fan swap yet, it sounds worthwhile to snag the factory relays at the pick and pull though.

I built 4 for various people, basically used up all the parts I'd bought. Sorry I'm out of the harness business They are a pain to build.

I'd only had the newest harness in for about a year before I sold the truck. I pulled the relays a couple times and they were fine the times I checked them.

Picking up the factory relays and bases would be a good idea.

Depends on the brand. I use a Madfan and he has 100% lifetime warranty....the very best.

K...so I put in the BlackBear harness yest and drove around for a while. Pretty simple install - the hardest part was getting the cover back on the PCM! Seems to be working great. I'll log some miles in the heat then pull the relays and see whats up.

I built a harness off that diagram using 10ga Hi-temp wire for the main wires and 14ga wire for the signal wires.

I also didnt use the AC Clutch as a "switch" it cycling off and on will do a number to a relay. Let your PCM control the fans, and put 2 override switchs in the cab.

It seems the guys above (& others) who've built their own or BB harness have been happiest & had less relay issues.

Once I had the harness in my hand, it was easy for me to look at the diagram and understand it. I've only had one relay failure, and it was because they were exposed to the weather. I now have them protected and no problems at all.

When these babies kick on high, they really move some air! Be sure to use the proper gauge wire.
CDH, how did ya protect relay from weather exposure? Any pics?
I didn't know EDO made fan harnesses too. I've been rockin the Blackbear for ~1 yr. I'm happpen w/. it.

I guess the 'technical term' is a snubber, see this wiki link

I can kinda read most of that above schematic from Nonni, but when it gets "technical", this is when it gets over my head.

My Nelson harness did great for about 3-4 years until the truck sat for 18 months and two relays smoked in succession...been rockin three new relays for the past few months with no problems. BUT, if I had to do it again, I'd go with the BlackBear harness as I have heard of very few problems with theirs if any. Seems like I'm one of the lucky ones who got their harness from Nelson before the QC went to ****...his relays have always been the cheapest off the shelf it seems though...

A buddy of mine just got a Nelson harness on his supercharged 1500HD. Been through about 7 relays now and it keeps messing up. He's supposed to call them and see whats up about replacing the harness. The relay sockets get really loose and start melting the plastic. Everything is wired right, and my OE fan harness worked with it just fine while testing it. Just givin a heads up, the nelson one has small wire and gets hot as hell.
