Im new to the whole Gen III thing, but among the offroad crowd the most popular electric fan is the Taurus 2 speed, and the Lincoln MK8 2 speed. In my offroad circles they are considered to have the most CFM of any easily available boneyard unit. Very cheap in boneyards.
I actually ended up with a freebie Crown Vic fan (same as listed above). I was very surprised how well it fit. It covers the radiator very well, and moves air like crazy. Along with being a genuine ford part, it also seems to have other drawbacks. The stock 105A alternator won't keep up at idle. My temperature gauge showed that it was actually running a little hotter. I also don't think it will give you as much clearance as the LS1 fans (from the pictures I've seen). I think that the two fan setup might be more efficient at cooling than the massive one fan, but since it was a freebie, and I have $0 in the whole setup, it will do until I find a sweat deal on a set of LS1's.
