Default Dual exhaust was a bad idea

Well im not sure what kind of luck you guys have had with your true dual exhaust. But I recently dualed out my 04 SCSB 5.3 an I am about to change it back to the way I had it. I started out with Edelbrock shrtty headers into the stock Y pipe into the stock tail pipe into some kind of a Torpeto pack(I belive its just a Glass pack) then dumped. An with that setup my truck ran great. It had good lowend torqe an still opened up good on topend. But I thought maybe with true duals then it might be even better, I was way wrong! My dual setup was, shortty headers into 2.5" pipe with no Cats. into a Magnaflow X pipe then into 2 (1)chamber flows then dumped. An yes the truck does sound awsome if you ask me. But I lost way to much bottom end torque an power. It doesnt even fell like the truck starts pulling untill about 3500RPMs. An I am serious. So I decided to see how it ran on my friends G tech. An I know those arent very accurat but I did a few runs an no matter what my truck ran atleast .2-.4 thousends slower every time. My truck could not even break into the 14s an I usually ran 14.80s an lower every time with the old exhaust setup. I thought maybe the lost lowend would get madeup for on topend, WRONG! Its just slower all the way around. So anyways,I am going to sell my old exhaust or whatever I can of it. An just go back to my old setup. But I was just trying to inform you guys about my experiance with dual exhaust, something to think about. Maybe if I had a SC then that might help my truck alot better. An I know maybe not every one had this problem but I did, an I just wish I never paid for all that work. An I was wondering if anyone had a old Y pipe laying around the garage they might be interested in selling? Lat me know ASAP

i think i would try to find a muffler that is a dual in and out one. like the hd muffler i have has an x pipe type design in it.that might help. as for the low end and losing power. i think unless you have a cam and a stall then to much flow is bad.i have it true dual untill the muffler. i have the hd muffler from magnaflow. i think i am about to put the cats back on it now. but i am unsure.

How loud is it? How much would you take for the X pipe and 2 flows. If the price is right, I would take them off your hands if you are going back the way you had it. I don't know what else you have done, but you might not need true duals. JMO.

It's loud, I have the same setup and have had it for sometime now. I love the sound around town but on the highway it gets a little annoying sometimes. I most definetly lost bottom end tq but I did notice mine pulled harder up top 3500 on. I plan on replacing my mufflers if I get this new truck since my wife will be driving my truck. I think you might want to try what 02denali said, put a magnaflow dual in and out muffler and see if it's help.

Get a cheaper X-pipe and put on there. Cheaper usually means more restrictive.

THe PCM will also take some time to adjust to it, you won't get it all back, but it should feel a little better within a tank of gas.

Like you mentioned, maybe your not making enough power to utilize the free flowing exhaust (s/c, n2o, cam, etc). It should pull better in the higher RPMs though. My suggestion would be to get longtubes, and keep it dualed because any future modifications will compliment the free-flowing exhaust.

Get a cam installed with a reverse split pattern. Something like a 212/208. Right now you have too much exhaust flow, and its killing your torque. Getting a cam to match your setup will give you your torque back as well as make more power.

Yea I thought about putting a diffrent muffler but I still think I am going to put my old setup back on. An I plan on buying a SC after some time but dont know when that will be. So for now I want that lowend torque back.
