Default does disabling AFM prevent the lifters from failing?

Like the title ask. I just got my 08sierra with the LY5 back from the dealer for warranty work. The engine had 65,000 miles and one month left of the 5year 100,000 power train. The tech found the number 4 lifter to have failed and replaced all the lifters, lifter guides and cam plus associated hardware and fluids. My question is will tuning the AFM out keep the new lifters from failing again. I would like to swap the lifters to LS7 with a cam swap but that isn't it the cards right now.

Thanks Art

Far as I know no. They are pretty much requiered when it comes to deleting the AFM and DOD. Most common lifters for that process are some LS7 Delco lifters.

Not the first time a GM motor has these AFM issues with lifters going out. Pretty big issue years back that GM had to deal with. Sorry if I misunderstood your question.

Would a 2011 5.3 have these lifters? Not sure if all the new v8's have DOD.

You should be able to have the DOD disabled in the tune. I think it's a good idea to disable it. Keep the lifters pumped up at all times. The ones I've seen fail had varnish causing the lifter to stick collapsed.

you can disable DOD in the tune, but I'm not sure that will totally fix the problem. The lifters are weaker simply because they are designed to be able to collapse to go into v-4 mode.
