Default Denali awd 6.0 Stall question

I'm curious about the negatives of putting a stall, say 3000, on my '02 Denali (all-wheel drive). I know it would launch like a **** because of the all-wheel drive, but I'm worried about how strong the trans and other parts are. Will it/they hold up? It's my daily driver, but I plan to hit the 1/4 once in a great while, and of course do some launches on the street against unsuspecting "sports cars"...

Does anyone have experience with this type of a setup? I'm assuming it's the same as on an SS.?.?.?

A couple of the local shop guys said they weren't sure if it would be too much stress and break things. They may not be used to installing them on the SS/Denali/Escalade.

Would the Yank be better because it's supposed to handle towing better (ie. should be stronger)?

i've tried launching on 4hi and also on auto 4WD which is the same thing as AWD like you have. works good. no broken parts really.

ujoints might start to go. i had to replace the transfer case driveshaft seal and some rear tires

but overall, those are things that tend to go after years of abuse without a stall.

the yank 3000 tows like a charm. go ahead and buy one. best mod i have done so far. makes driving really fun too.

before yank 15.7
after yank 15.3

Your Denali will feel MUCH better with a stall. I suggest a GM Trailblazer converter. It will drive almost like stock under light accelleration, but have a much better take off. It should stall to 2500ish behind the denali weight. The Yank 3000 will feel more loose with the weight of the denali, but will offer a harder hit off the line. Lockup is perfect and gas mileage should not suffer. Your transmission is the 4L65E which has some upgraded parts from the factory. Get a vette servo at a minimum and a shift kit if you want. You will be pleased.

Maybe Gonzo will see this thread and give his opinion. He helped a buddy buy and install heads, cam, exhaust and a stall on a freinds Denali recently. He says it really runs strong.

His Denali runs awesome with the mods we did.On his we did a yank 11" 2600.My buddy did some towing with it.I would say something like 5kLbs. for approx. 300 miles. His trans fluid was dark after that, before that he had towed and never discolored the fluid. And with the weight of this vehical you can feel the stall. All I know if it was me I wouldnt go anymore than 2600 stall if I was going to tow.But thats just me.

First off, thanks for all the great responses and experiences! I don't have plans to tow, but may tow a "family" boat once in a while, and possibly a couple quads. After all my searches, I was planning on going with a 3000 stall, but now I'm contemplating the 2600 as you've stated. If I don't tow much, should I consider the 3000?

What would be the difference between the Trailblazer stall and, say, and aftermarket 2600rpm stall? Cost? Power handling?

go for the 3000 stall. it is not too much stall, but enough to blow away almost every car at every stoplight. it is a great feeling leaving people in the dust with their jaw dropped in a 5500lb truck
