Zippy - Like I kind of said above, I think the key to getting a TCC to live in heavy duty use is proper tuning. Locking the TCC at 2,800rpm under heavy slip HAS to be hard on the clutch. (whether it's during a WOT 1/4 mile run, or up a small grade on the highway with a boat in tow).
I'm still running my stock converter, and with the way I've got things tuned, I really don't have a whole lot of desire for a converter. (even though my Yank 2600 has been in my hands for over a year now).
My shift points are set to let the tach hover betwen 1,800 and 2,200 at light throttle takeoffs through the gears.
My TCC locks are almost seamless. I have them occouring when the RPM's are over 1,500 at light throttle - where the stock converter has a good chance of already having it's input/output turning at close speeds. Stock, even the stock converter lockup feels/felt like a gear change. I hated that. I expect this stock TCC to last forever...

If I do anything, it'll be a Yank Pro Truck 3000. (7000lb tow rating)... I've REALLY been tossing around that idea a lot lately.

there are lots of different part #'s for the TB converter. They changed them between years, 2wd/4wd, etc. That is why there are so many different ones, but most of them work the same. Ask zippy for the current correct one if you want to make sure though.
