Default Daily Driver: H/C LS1 or 383 stroker?

Alright, I've been debating on this forever. The more I think about it, the more confused I am. I want to run at least low 13's on motor w/ a trailblazer stall and slicks. BUT, I also want as much traction as possible on the street, That's why I leaning towards leaving the stock crank, rods and pistons in the LS1. Don't get me wrong, I want a lot of power, but drivability/gas mileage is just as important. I'll only go to the track probably 4 or 5 times a year.

H/C LS1:
-FMS stage 2 5.3 heads
-FMS custom cam 220/224-112
-02' pcm and newer injectors
-FMS dyno-tune
-All of my current bolt-ons

383 LS1:
-FMS stage 2 5.3 heads
-FMS F13 cam (230/232-113)
-Eagle 4.000" Crank
-Eagle H-Beam rods
-Mahle pistons
-02' pcm and 4xlb injectors
-FMS Dyno Tune
-All of my current bolt-ons

Each motor will be machined & balanced along with new bearings, rings, gaskets, lifters, etc.

Should I just get the LS1 or go ahead and do the 383? Please remember my goals.

ls1 would be better for you, as far as gas milage is concerned. Both engines are gas-o-holics although.. the 383 makes it more of an addiction

For the 383, don't forget to include drivetrain upgrades in your budget. H/C will probably be your best choice.

Your right, forgot about that.

Would the H/C LS1 get better gas mileage than what I'm getting right now or about the same?

It depends on how far you are really going to go with it. My girl reminds me everytime I buy new mods that I say "this is it, I promise". If you are planning on going with FI or nitrous, I would go with the 383 for the forged parts. If youre going to stay NA and not go all out, save the money.

Yeah, I plan on staying N/A for right now. Down the road maybe next year or so, MAYBE a 75-100 wet shot, but probably not. After I get the motor in, I'll start investing in the apperance and maybe a 4-wheeler

I guess there are two ways to look at it. Go with the 383 now and have the added confidence of the forged internals and a little more power. Or save the money and know that if you go crazy youre going to need a new motor, with a 75 or 100 shot a H/C LS1 should have no probs as long as the tune is good.

Damn, I'm still stuck in the middle. I guess I'm just gonna have to save and see what happens. Thanks for the help and keep it coming!

What do ya'll thinkk the H/C LS1 combo would make on the dyno and run at the track on motor? Thanks!

Im not sure how much your truck weighs, but my buddy with H/C low compression LS1 put down a little over 390 to the wheels NA. Most H/C LS1's that I see put down 400-420 on average. It will be fast no doubt.
