Default contemplating electric fans

I'm looking at ways to free up or gain some low end and mid range tq for when I'm towing the camper. The Gibson shorties made a little improvement but not nearly what I'd like to have. (I did see a mileage increase though.) Anyone know how much power is robbed by the stock fan? I thought I heard 10 hp somewhere. I'm confident that I could make some LS1 fans work. I used to fab shrouds and build prototype radiators for GM for years. what I don't know is how they are controlled. From what I'm reading here it sounds like they are computer controlled. Will a 2000 silverado ecm drive them?
More ?s later.

yes with the right tune you can use the pcm to run the fans, you will get close to 20hp on very hot days, on cold days maybe 5hp, yes alot people use the ls1 fans. good luck.

yes, you can make the LS1 fans work... pm "white1" for a fan harness that will hook up straight to your pcm...

You will also need to have the fans "turned on" in the PCM like V8 said. Pretty mutch the only thing Im aware of that you can use from the car would be the plugs that plug into the fans. You might could re-use the relays also, but I havent looked at a car fan harness. Ill be more that happy to fix you up with one though
