Default Comp cams 212/218 cam any good?

I called comp cams today and they recommended this cam for my 5.3 L GMC. part #54-412-11 212/218 duration .522/.529 lift and 114 LS. Does anybody have this cam in your truck, if so, do you like it? how does it sound? wish you would've went bigger? any other recommendations? thanks for any info

MY truck has the 5.3,4x4 Z71, 10" lift, 36x12.5 tires, 373 gears. the only mods ive done so far are headers, no cats, true dual exhast, and a few other little free mods. sorry for the lack of info.

That is a proven cam with the 5.3 and 6.0 motors. Its been shown to give gains of 30+ HP with little to no loss of low end torque. I'd run it in my 5.3 if I had one.

I'm thinking of getting this cam for my 4.8 would that be a good idea? If not what cam should i get i dont want to put in a bigger stall, and do i need a tune? could i use my diablosport predator programmer to somehow re-tune it that way? Thanks a lot.

This is a thread from 2003, you should make your own thread and more people would come in and help you.

The 212/218 would work good in a 4.8 and yes you will want to get a custom tune from blackbear, wheatley or possibly a dyno tune locally. Some guys run that 212/218 in 5.3L's with the stock converter fine so with a 4.8L it would be decent. If you choose to get a converter later on you will be more pleased with the cam though.

This is for a regular cab right?

How would this cam run in a 6.0 with 243 heads, stock truck intake and long tube headers?
