!Check your stock Manifold/Header Bolts!!!

just recently i have had an exhaust leak, after looking it appered that the drivers side rear manifold bolt was missing, but after finding one to fix the prolblem, i discovered that it had broke and the head had fell out.
i thought well mabey ill check the one behind it, i had just put the 10mm wrench on it and barely turned it to tighten and it fell out!! hanging on by a thread, another one broke
a few questions, whats the easiest way to extract the stud out? i am sure it is flush with the head. are these aluminum heads on my 99? mine appear to be.
after this i will be replacing all of them with APR!!, hopefully theres not any more broke!

"left-hand" drill bit/ easy out would be your best bet.

Thats really interesting, mine broke off the driver's front also. I wasnt about to use an "easy" out. Never had any luck with them, even though I have seen others use them with success. What I did to get it out was weld a nut to the end of the broken bolt. The bolt broke flush with the head so I just held the nut in place while my friend welded them up. Put a wrench on it and it came right out.

For some reason we have had a rash of these truck through the shop with the same problem lately. We just pull the heads and use a variatable cornicopia of methods depending on how it brok and what's left of the bolt.

if you have any machining skills or have drilled out broke bolts at all do it yourself, if not save some time and take it to a machine shop. i wouldnt think twice about pulling the head and taking it to a shop if i didnt have any experience with it. this is definately not an area to take a shortcut.
