Default carb'd 5.3 cam?

ive been doing some searching on here about cams, most setups are leaning into the fact of how much the trucks weigh. my issue is that the 5.3 is going in a 3000# or less car. i have a 2800 stall, victor jr carb'd intake, msd 6010 box and dont know which cam to choose. currently its stock headed and thought about putting in 02-03 zo6 springs and cam but want something that is a little more lopey (this is not a dd) and begins to make power around 3k. also it will see some nx on occation. any thoughts?

That victor junior intake is good for 7000 rpms or so on an LS1 so you're well in the clear to rev the motor out past red line a little. If it were my motor I'd figure on revving the 5.3L to 6500 and focusing the camshaft to pull from 1500-6500. The LS6 cam will start to run out of breath about 6300 in the 5.3L. Have you looked into the Comp Cams XR265 high lift? That is a 212/218 .558/.563" on a 115 LSA. I have ridden in an S10 with a 5.3L swapped in with that camshaft and it never ran out of breath all the way to 6500. Other than shorty headers and a perfect tune, it was otherwise a stock 5.3L with a lot of nitrous (started out at 200hp jets). The S10 is probably a tad heavier than your proposed 3000lb project but they're still in the same range. I'd start there and look around that range.

I've seen different reports of what the stock "yellow" LS6 springs can handle. I've seen .550", and I've seen .580" for the same spring. Considering the stock LS6 cam in '02 is a 0.551" / 0.547", I'd guess Lingenfelter is right when quoting the springs to be capable of handling .580" or so.

I got a 6.0L in a Z71 with a Comp Cams 224/230 .581/.588 lift. It might be a good cam forhttp://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?part=CCA%2D54%2D444%2D11&autoview=s ku your application, but without a stall in my truck, I'll be looking for a LS6 cam.

Yes, most camshafts are plenty on the safe side for nitrous. This one has been proven in many 5.3L motors starting out with nitrous.
