No. not without better fuel. 7psi is prety hard with no intercooler.

put in some 100octane and you could probably go 9psi, some 105octane and 10-11psi, but i wouldn't push it past the stock boost without a scan tool watching for knock.

others may have diferent experiences with their whipple but thats how it worked for me.

mine detonated at 6 psi with 3 degrees pulled out on top of the timming the whipple computer pulled out. but thats in cali with crappy gas. your best bet is to get rid of whipple computer and run bigger injectors and then you should be able to run more psi

Hmm...thanks man!

Now, decisions...decisions. Do I wanna run 8psi and 105 octane for the track. Or just stick with my 5psi and maybe some 100 octane...

Well, Im not going all out because I'm going to be selling the truck soon...soo it'd be a waste of money.

But, I totally agree...if I were keeping the truck, I'd be fabbing up an intercooler and running 10-12psi on a 6.0 with some Stg III heads and a big blower cam

Dammit, now look what you guys have made me do!

I started looking around and found this:

Its just the right measurements to fit between my frame rails behind my lower valance. The positioning of the inlet/outlet is perfect and piping can easily be run for the filter and intake.

Now, I just have to find one locally, and order a 10lbs pulley from Whipple

Thanks!

I run 8.5 to 9 psi on my current combo with no probs. I never had any detonation when my truck was a 5.3 til I jacked it up to 11 lbs. Then when running about 9 lbs on the stock 6 liter I got greedy with the timing and cracked a piston. I always read on here where you other guys can't run much boost without detonation and I thought WTF? It gets hot around here, and humid too.

Then.......I put the 5.3 in my work truck and used an '01 pcm. I programmed it with a tune I had ran the same combo on with no probs in the 02 truck and it pinged and knocked like crazy. I had to pull timing, add a bunch of fuel, and lower the boost to 7 lbs. It still pings at part throttle and sometimes under full throttle. The exact same combo that ran its *** off with no issues in the other truck. So, can you run more than 7 psi? The only way to know is to try, but I am betting not.

Especially in Tucson, keep an open ear out for detonation and get out of it the split second you hear it. Last year(ish) I had the stock 6lb. pulley on and decided to go up just four degrees in timing and it pinged like I had an industrial pop corn machine under my hood I was on 91oct pump gas and no intercooler at that time. Now I run a lot more timing and more boost

I think if you run 100oct. you should be able to get away with 8psi. even in the Tucson heat. Good luck at the track

Well, I am gonna relocate my filter down by my bumper and run an 8 or 10psi pulley and some 105 octane for the track...that should make things fun .

I dont think I'll have enough time to find and fab up an intercooler unfortunately.

Default Whipple Intercooler

Where did you find that intercooler and how much was it?

I have a 99 RCSB with a whipple on my 4.8 and LS1 heads off a '98 corvette running 9lbs of boost and no detonation on 93 octane.

Sure would love an intercooler!!!
