Default Cam replacement with heads on

Question: Is it possible to change out the cam in an LS type engine without removing the heads? The engine will be out of the vehicle on a rotating engine stand. I'd like to hear from someone who has done it.

TIA

Easy to do, weekend project if you haven't done it before in an LS and are mechanically inclined. I did mine in one long night by myself. Do your research and have the tools you need before you start. A good puller and Dirt Track's pulley installer will save time and headaches. If it is on the stand you can probably do it is 3-5 hours with ease.

Yes, just did my cam and springs the other weekend, and used this write-up as my guide:

Pull the radiator (AC condenser can stay in). Pull the valve covers off, and pull the rocker arms and PR's, use pen magnets to hold the lifters up, take the front accessories off of the motor, pull the timing cover, unbolt the cam from the cam gear, and pull it out (I used water pump bolts to pull the cam out.) Pour some oil over the new cam and slide it in the engine, time the cam, put the chain back on and bolt the cam gear to the cam .. etc... like everyone else said, it's a day project if you take your time.

cant you just pull the lifters before you pull the cam. then put the lifters back in when the new cam is in?
