cam question

I talked to craig at GTP Racing, He recomended the follwing for my truck. Stage 2 heads and a 222/222-.540/.540 on any lobe seperation i want. Is this to much for a daily driver? i want low to mid range TQ and HP. Good vacum and not to big of a lope with about 400 RWHP. Any suggestions. THAnks

Personally, with with stage 2 heads, I would go for more lift. Like around 560 or so. Are you planning on spray? If so, look into a split. As far as lsa, I am looking in the 112 to113 range. Overall, that's not a bad choice and I would run it. I think the first cam I wind up getting will be smaller than that more like a 212/218 530/530 113 or close. But I won't have the head work done for a while.

Thats a little on the large side IMO for a daily driver truck. But in order to get 400 HP, you gotta do what you gotta do. You will lose torque and you will need to shift @ 6400+. Basically those are the specs for a T1 or B1 cam which alot of the cars run. They don't care quite as much about torque.

Did Craig tell you what final combustion chamber size would be or what compression ratio he was aiming for? On a 5.3L with those specs and 10:1 compression, I would think you might see more along the lines of 370-380 rwhp...all of this considering you have your typical bolt-ons.

We didn't talk about C.R. oxidizer. But i will I'm still in prelims now. Bix tex I was looking at the st.2 heads with the Hammer (C1)222/222 .566.566 114 L/S with 4 degrees of timimg ground in. This may be 2 much then I'm not looking for a race truck just want to have more low and mid range HP and TQ. I'm not going to spray 4.8 Who just put in a cam a few weeks ago? I wanted to see how he likes it after he's had time to drive it awhile. Thanks for the Input..

That was me and it still kicks *** . You may want to go bigger than I did though. Mine is still VERY streetable with a small lope. I have all the bugs worked out and when I floor it at about 30 mph the *** end breaks loose. It's pretty cool. I am taking it on vacation to the Outer Banks of N.C. the week of labor day. I will see how bad my gas milage sucks then .
By the way mine is a Crane grind. http://www.cranecams.com/motorsports...er/1449521.htm

My heads were ported a long time ago. It is a home brew job. Smoothed the ports out a little. Did not do a whole lot to them, this was back in 99 when little was known about flow on these heads. You will need Comp 918 springs for that cam. My LS6 springs work just fine with a 6200 rpm limit.
