basically what you need to know is that your cam choice is just that, it's your choice.

I have a 212/218 comp cam. My buddy had a Z06 cam. It added 36rwhp and lost 5 rwtq. It idled better and no codes. Go with the Z06 cam, shift at 6,100, and be happy. I would still go with the converter at first.
Slowverado's cam probably will idle scary. However, it will not make power worth a damn. Not with a stock tune.

When you say "IT added 36rwhp", do you mean your cam or your pals ZO6 cam? I assume you mean the Z06 cam(?) There are two types of Comp cams with 212/218...Extreme RPM and Extreme RPM high lift. Now, which one of these three do you recommend, (a) the ZO6, or (b and c) one of the two on this page:

Thanks...

I recommend the Z06 cam, highly recommend. I like my cam but, if I had to do it all over again. I would take the Z06 cam. It idles like stock, its cheaper, and you don't have misfire codes and have TQ lockup problems(due to the misfire code).
A guy at a local speed shop installed the Z06 cam and loved it. He then wanted alittle more power. He installed the same came I have. He said he felt no difference in power. He said he just got misfire codes out of the swap.
Go with the Z06 cam you will be impressed and happy.

If longevity is the main issue, I wouldn't go that high with lift.
If I went and bought this cam, would be be a good fit when I turn in the ole' 5.3 for a 6.0, or would I have to change cams again?

If you do the cam first I would do a converter and shift kit at that time also. Plan to get you some tuning also because you will be leaving alot on the table without it.

Good luck!

Too many choices now....
I talked to a guy at AMS yesterday, and he said the 220/220 would run on the stock tune, if i adjusted the idle.... However he did say headers first.

I'm not stuck on anything at the moment, I'm just reading replies and trying to decide.

I would like a cam that will run better without tuning for a little bit, then have a tune to help it out.

I would think since I dont have any tuning or headers a converter should be later on the list. However I'm still reading replies, and I'll try to narrow it down somewhat today.

go with something like my cam but with a little more lift...216/218 .535/.535 112 is mine...go with the same numbers but maybe .550 lift. mine idles a bit choppy but nothing you can't deal with by adjusting the idle.

What will more lift do? Move the powerband further up?
Also.... was that a custom grind?

Every motor could use tuning, stock or not. However, the Z06 cam requires no tuning to idle or increase power. If you want, buy a Hypertech and raise you shift points.
For what you would spend on a cam, pushrods, springs, and programing. Springs and cam cost my buddy $325. Buy a stall for $850. Bye,Bye Mustang GTs. Cheap, simple, and no change in everyday driving.
I will scream at the top of my lungs how great the Z06 cam is, as far as power and simplicity. Is there cam out there that will make more power? Yes, of course. On a stock tune with no codes or driveability issues? Not that I have found.
