cam/head/intake gains as a whole
#1
Ok. So i've been reading a lot on the intake manifold threads and so on. And i'm basically gathering that there's not much change to be made power wise for a daily driven truck that might see some occasional foot love by swapping intakes. And that running much over a 220 cam is over kill. And most of this I found is for the 5.3. Obviously i'm running the little brother motor. But what I haven't seen is with say a 243/799 head, and the 220 cam, would these intakes produce less loss under the curve to be worth the coin? Or perhaps the complete combination would net enough gain to push a truck at half throttle to justify the wide open gains? Any info is appreciated, or even direction towards the correct info. Anything related to the smaller motor would be even better. Thanks.

it doesnt take a big cam to go fast..the right combo of parts will do wonders
Smaller cams i always found to run better and have more useable power
As far as a tbss intake swap i wasnt a fan of it and sold it.

This was more about intake than cam. But the intake with better flowing heads and so forth would met after gains than with the stock heads I have. That's kinda what i'm pushing at. And as far as the cam goes I guess I could take flow charts of the heads and intake and figure up a custom grind for the combo.

I will be putting a set of 799's on my lq4 in a couple of weeks, with a 220/218 .581 .562 111lsa cam, and 8.1 truck injectors. Only other mods to engine will be the cia and dual cat back exhaust that are allready on the truck. The heads have allready been milled .020". I just need to cut new valve seats, reface the valves, and put the heads back together. I allready have the gaskets, seals, valve springs, injectors, cam and heads. All I lack at this point is pushrods, but I won't buy those until I measure for proper length.

The tbss intakes seem to do better on the larger displacement engines. I gained about 70 whp with my head and cam swap. I already had the tbss intake installed. Ran a 13.2@99 all motor. And no issues with low rpm driving. It's all in the tuning.
