Default Cam for Daily Driver

Hey all. I'm considering a new camshaft for my '05 Silverado. I'm a little new to camshaft numbers, so I'm looking for a little advice. I have a 2005 Silverado w/ a 5.3. The casting number on the heads is 862. I'm not sure if these are a great head or not. I don't have the cash to spend on a converter so that has to stay. Tuning the truck is also a problem. So if it is a cam that needs a tune, no big deal. I'm also planning shorty headers to go with the Magnaflo cat back and CAI already on the truck. I'm primarily looking for better 1/4 mile times but this is a daily driver. Any advice would be appreciated.

hold off on a cam, and do all the bolt ons, maybe 4.10s, and a trail blazer converter.

yep im with him... and you will see little to no gain from running shortys... seriously... look what the stockers look like vs the shortys... im sure there are small gains and advantages.. but its not worth the money.... i would get some longtubes or leave it alone...

get a high flowing exhaust/ or cutout.... i would do gears.... my 4.10s woke the 4.8 up... you could get it tuned.. let them raise shift points... but if you don plan on changing converter then its kinda pointless to go through all the trouble of swapping cam IMO...
