Default cam and convertor combo

Hey guys just wanted a little advice
2003 ecsb 2wd 5.3 with 373 gears
Lowered 3-4 with 275-45-20s
Only mods so far is a cai and flowmaster dual catback
I have already ordered the blue ls3 valve springs and comp xr265hr
Low lift 114 cam. Also i plan to order pacesetter lt and o/r y pipe this week
Would you guys do a torque convertor? If so i can get a great deal on a tb torque convertor.
Its just a driver and not really used to haul or tow
i would like to see the truck break into the 13s just for a fun driver
Also it will be dyno tuned after installing the mods
Thanks guys

You will need a converter to break into the 13's I believe and should be looking into a converter even with the stock cam. A 2800-3200 stall would be good with that cam but a tb converter would be better than stock. You can get a 278mm converter from Circle D for $400

I can get a brand new tb convertor for $170 bucks lol thats why im leaning
Towards it.
Also is their a better option for long tube headers is the same price range as pacesetters? Im not knocking them but i know years ago they were not very Well made?

Yep and that's what you will get a 170 worth of performance!
Buy a real convertor with stall ratio and shift extension

I would go with 3000 or 3200 stall
My 2000 silverado extended cab with 2800 stall lt headers,k&n,built tranny 411gears and 228r cam went 14.1 on 20in rims

I think you guys are being a little over zealous on the converter. The xr265hr is commonly used without a converter with good results. Due to the larger tires it will likely flash the stall higher as it won't be able to push thru the brakes as easy. I would venture to bet a trailblazer stall will stall to about 24-2600. That said a bigger stall is for sure going to net better times. That said if you are going to run a 3k stall from circle d then a bigger cam should be used. 220/224 .56x/.57x would be a good choice. You will benefit from the bigger stall speed and an extra 25hp just going to a bigger cam.

I wasnt planning on even adding a convertor but i thought for that cheap i would toss it in?
From people i have talked too the little 212/218 comp cam works pretty well
For a very mild truck? I just thought a small stall would be worth while?
I have owned prob a half dozen or so chevy trucks but never really modded any of them. But after this crappy winter and watching youtube videos
I bought this truck just for a toy lol

212/218 is a proven cam for a very mild DD or towing application. That said stepping up a little bit won't hurt you at all especially if your tuner knows what they are doing. Lots of guys around here daily drive cams way north of 220 duration and with anywhere from stock stalls up to about 3600. I would say the budget stall from circle d will be perfect for you it's basically unnoticeable under 60% throttle and you will be so happy it's there above that point anyways. The 220/224 cam is a proven one. It makes great power yet is mild enough that I know of at least one truck that has passed Canadian emissions(just as tough as CA) and another couple that passed in California. It will drive really nice and really get the job done when you put your foot in it.
