Default California CARB questions

ok..... planning on moving into california and my truck wont pass the stupid inspections.

I got a 4.8 in my scsb. bought the truck with the exhaust like this....

edelbrock shorties, no cats, new pipes for true duals into flowmaster 40's that are dumped.

i found that the edelbrocks are CARB legal but i havent found out on the flowmasters yet.

with having no cats, im screwed.... from what i have read, i basically need a factory exhaust bolted up to the headers. or is there other options that will get me pass visual inspections?

ya the flowmasters are fine just have to do something about the cats, do your headers have a CARB number on them?

I believe it is a federal violation to remove the cats from an equiped vehicle, in CA it is a $1000 fine per missing cat...nobody cares about mufflers.

i have read all about that..... 2k dollar fine with no cats in cali.... bummer.

up here in michigan we dont have vehicle inspections really. i know too many people who run without cats and no one has ever had a problem with the law about it..... but yes, i know..... it is a federal offense(i think) for cutting off your cats.

i know CA states that you cant change the stock location of the cat.... what am i supposed to do about that

and i dont know if my headers have a carb number. i looked online on the carb site and edelbrock shorty headers were listed as legal. truck is in michigan and im in cali right now so its kinda hard to go outside and check, haha.

Yeah you must have cats. With mine I am running Thorley Tri-y headers to 2.5" Magnaflow cats and 2 2.5" dynomax mufflers. Just smogged it today and she is as clean as a whistle. Measured .00 in CO at both 15 and 25mph. Also 16 and 11 HC with a max of 100 and 89.

This is with the 383 and 218/224 cam. You should be fine as long as you have cats.

As for stock location as long as it is in the general spot you are OK. Mine are not exactly the same position with the custom exhaust and have never had a problem with the last two times smogging it.

Your truck originally came with 2 cats, so you will have to run 2 to be CARB legal.
