Best air intake kit?

My 2 cents. I am using the AEM Brute Force intake and it works well for me. Couple of guys on here have had good results with them.
But then again, with most of these intakes they either work or they are crap. And when they are crap its usually a quality of manufacturing issue. So basically whoever gives the best price for a well made piece is the best option.

It does add something and the intake sound is nice. I'm planning on doing some 1/4 mi. runs pretty soon (for its 1st time) at the local track. 16s?

Not to hyjack the thread...but, have any of you guys had the chance to test out the re-designed Volant intake. I'm thinking about buying one of those with the ram air. Or I may just fabricate my own pro cold type.

just by lurking around here for a few years, from what i gathered, guys with the UPD like the performance gains and its looks, but it is cheaply made, it cracks, and is hard to remove and reinstall.
i like my K&N FIPK.
if i were to get another truck, i probably would try the volant ram air set up just for ***** and giggles.

I just read an article in TEN Magazine about the re-designed Volant that claims a gain of 14.3hp and 12.8 lb-ft of torque over stock. The original design actually lost power supposedly due to the velocity stack location. It was originally located about 2 inches upstream of the MAF and created turbulence that interrupted the MAF's signal.
The new design has the velocity stack in a new position in the air box, closer to the MAF. Looking at the pictures it is located in the same place as the K&N velocity stack. The new velocity stack has a smaller inside diameter than the older one, with larger air box volume, and the air filter dia. was increased from 5 to 6 inches.
The Volant is definitely a nice looking unit, but that's not why we get these things. I'd rather have an ugly unit that performed any day. I like the ram-air and scoop that mounts in the opening behind the left side tow hook. It makes sense that the colder air charge would make more power, but I'd like to hear from someone with an un-biased opinion who has tested both the Volant and the K&N, among others. I'd like to test them myself, and run some data, intake air temp and flow for instance.
They installed it on a 2000 Silverado in the article, but didn't say what engine size. It's quieter than open-element units, and sells for $396.00 jobber price.
For that price, I'll stick with my K&N for now, plus I like the noise it makes. I emailed SLP the other night and inquired about their cold air intake vs. K&N. They replied that it too is quieter than the K&N with similar performance gains as the K&N. I can't remember the price, but it's considerably cheaper than the Volant from what I do remember.
