Question Beefing up engine for turbo setup

I was wondering what I should do first to beef up my engine and/or transmission if I was going to get a turbo setup. I want to keep the costs down but I want a turbo truck for a daily driver that can handle the PSI. Other than fuel pump and injectors, which I would do, should I put 6.0 heads on it. What cam? Transgo shift kit? Yank torque converter? Servos? Tranny cooler? I would like to know what would be the most important to do first.

ps - my truck is stock other than stuff named in my sig.

Work on the tranny first, the engine is plenty strong to deal with moderate boost levels (8-12 psi) but the 4L60 won't last 50 feet under hard FI use

I was in the same situation as you a few months ago. When you start getting into real power, you'll realize that none of this is cheap. I went with a vortech for FI because I figured I wouldnt need the extra power from a Radix so I thought Id save a little. By the end of this year I will have spent 4X what I had planned on. Vortech at 10-12#, alky injection, a 6.0 and a 4L80 to handle the power.
To answer your question, youll need a 4L80 to handle that kind of power and be reliable. While youre at it, it may be easier to get a 6.0 since Ive heard it bolts up easier. Thought it would be better if you went into it more prepared than I.

check out this gtech, my gtech has shown to be off by .3 for the 1/4 but the 60' has never been off by more than .01, the first run is 13psi and a 75shot, the 2nd run is just 10psi with a horiable 60', i can get low 1.9's most of the time without the nitrous.

turbo's rock!!

Thats awesome! I got some friend who will not listen to me on the facts that a turbo is more efficient, he says a supercharger is better all around while a turbo has its few pros. Narrow minded son of a gun. If I was to keep my current stock tanny and put in a shift kit and servos would that be just as good as an 4l80E? If I would drop in an 4l80E would I still need beef it up? What about a torque converter, what would be a good one for my setup?

I'm not a big blower fan at all. Turbo puts a lot less stress on the crank as well as the rest of the parts for same RWHP. It also is not adjustable like a turbo is for daily driving. Turbo is awesome if you can package it.
If you are tearing appart the motor, some guys are having excellent success in durability with ceramic coating pistons. I know if I was thinking boost, which i'm not, I would really want a forged bottom end with ceramic coated pistons. A cast crank may work well until you start making serious hp. With a blower its almost required.
