Well once you have it out, use the palm of your hand to compress the spring and you will have to twist it apart. There are two slots directly across from each other that the piece snaps into. You will understand once you have it in front of you. Be careful, once it disengages the spring could shoot at you so keep the palm of your hand over it. Putting it back together was probably a little harder but you will have it done in no time.

I have no expirience playing with gen III motors but if you opened the cooling system would you not bleed it if you were installing a thermostat? Saw a pic of a Hyper thermo and looks easier cause you can only put it in one way. Yeah alot of other motors you have to line up the jiggle valve or the motor will overheat, can also overheat if their is an air pocket from not bleeding the system.

Hey dude, this is the factory thermo and it can only go back together one way and back in the engine one way, so there is almost no chance of screwing it up. Just take it apart, drop the bb in the hole, and reassemble. Also, the cooling system probably bleeds itself, but I am not 100% sure. So far I haven't had any overheating, it stays at the bold 185 degree slash all the time.
