Supply and demand is what controls the price of gas. China and India have booming economies and use tremendous anount of gas now. This coupled with fewer refineries than we had in the early 70s thanks to enviromentalist group and tighter gov. restrictions means there is not enough capacity to produce gas fast enough to meet demand. The EPA also makes the gas companies produce more than 20 different blends that also drives up the cost. The price of gas is high, but if you factor in inflation it cost roughly the same as it did 20 years ago. Compared to most other nations the price of gas is cheap. In most european countries it runs between 3.50-6.00 dollars a gallon. There is no simply solution unfortunately.

money talks bullshit walks in Washington. fact of the matter is IRS code spells out that compensation to management (officers and alike, not stock holders) shold be evaluated by their experience, performance and level of responsibility and follow a guideline of what is the "norm" within the industry. If you were the COO of some company who normally does say 3million a year and all of a sudden the company has a record year of 5 million...you better bet your *** the IRS will be knockin go on your door if you as the manager took more than the "norm" for a bonus. But if your company could pay for ANY fringe for ANY politician...you wouldn't have to worry about ******* your stockholders out of the profits.

I live in south La. And work in the petro-chem industry. This isnt going to work for the main reason is that shell, texaco, mobil, exxon, chevron, etc gas stations all use the exact same gas, just different additives. The first time I saw a texaco chevron and mobil tank truck lined up in the same line to fill up I tripped out, this was before the exxon mobil merge too. It comes from the closest refinery, not that brands refinery.
