First issue. If you look at my ARH y-pipe, the 4" outlet is welded on just a little bit crooked. Instead of being parallel with the frame, it points towards the frame a little bit. Seen in this pic.

This is the kit I bought. Duramax cat-back. Fits all wheelbases, just need to shorten front pipe or mid pipe as needed.
Since it starts with a flange, and I needed a slip-fit/clamp to attach to my y-pipe, it didn't work out of the box.

Nobody in town could expand a 4" exhaust pipe for me. So I had him cut the expanded part off of the tailpipe and slipped that onto the y-pipe. Then we turned around the mid pipe, made sure to have clearance around the crossmember, and welded it on. Used the factory hanger for the mid pipe.

Now the muffler needed to go on. Well, it was ending up a little long & the muffler outlet was a little too close to the rear axle, so the over-axle pipe wouldn't fit right. Easy fix, just cut a little off the muffler inlet, and a little off the mid pipe, and weld. Add a hanger. Easy-peasy.

Next step was to slip the over-axle pipe into the muffler and clamp it. Simple. But the outlet end was too low for my liking, looked funny too. So we fixed that by chopping out 2 inches of pipe after the axle and welding it back up. You can see the weld in this pic. Put on the last hanger and it's done. No tailpipe or tip at this time. I may change that later, I'm not sure yet.

Excellent explanation. I don't know if my muffler guy has that much patience. If the front of the midpipe was expanded and slid onto the headers, would there still be quite a bit of modifying further back?

I think it would have been just about the same amount of work. To do that, the mid pipe would have needed to be a couple inches longer than it is. Or, cut the flange off the front pipe, expand it & slip onto the y-pipe. Then run it back to the mid pipe & cut to the needed length. I think that would have worked, but we weren't able to expand the 4 inch pipe.
I do think you still would have had to do the rest of the work we did after the mid pipe.
Slip your muffler guy a $50. His patience will increase a notch or two. lol

Perfect explanation, and I totally get what you mean about the tail pipe being too low for your liking and having to take 2" off of the over axle pipe to bring it up. I've seen trucks with exhaust that needs that treatment, tail pipe looks horrible when it's too far away from the bed.

Thanks guys. It does sound pretty good I think. Unfortunately, my transmission isn't working properly, and has to come back out. So I won't have any new exhaust clips for a little while.
There's one part about my new exhaust setup that is bothering me. It's hard to explain, but it's almost like I can hear the exhaust "exit" the tailpipe... kind of a high pitched whisper... hard to explain. Almost a rasp, but not really. I can hear it even when it's idling.
I'm thinking that the tailpipe ends too close to that last bend, and might be causing it. So I've started looking for a 4" tailpipe tip. I'd really like to find one that's resonated, I'm pretty sure that would take care of it. Have any of you guys seen one like this? Care to point me in the right direction? I'm also trying to decide the color & style of tip. Your opinions on this would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance!

How about installing a 4" bullet or a small muffler as far forward as possible after the y-pipe? It'd still have great flow, kill any drone, quiet it up some and still sound great. That's what I did on my 3" and it fixed everything I didn't like about it.

I haven't really driven the truck much more than 15 miles, but it didn't really have a drone or anything like that. It actually sounds pretty good. It's hard to explain, but it's like the air makes a funny noise as it leaves the tailpipe. Kinda like blowing across the top of a Coke bottle, but pulses with the lope of the cam. Like I said, hard to explain.

Mine sounded really similar to that with uncatted LT's and a single Magnaflow. I know that sound you're talking about and it sounds a little off. Mine did it with a full bend and side exit after where yours is cut off. Hopefully extending it a bit will help you out but I wouldn't bet on it. I stuck a little 10" Dynomax on mine. It made it deeper but quieter, if you know what I mean. It also made it more comfortable inside the cab and I can listen to music now. It was really worth it. You might want to try that if nothing else works to kill that sound or if you find that it drones.
