Just got back from the dealer for the steering clunk and the tailgate cable recall. No argument at all about the steering issue. The service rep said we'll order the replacement shaft and call you when it comes in. Expect about a week for that. He offered to do the lube bandaid in the interim, but I declined.

They replaced the tailgate cables with ones that had a sticker on them "Made in China". They aren't even the same length, so unless weight is apllied to the tailgate, only one cable is tensioned. Now that's a real confidence builder.

I just got my steering shaft replaced last week. It only took about 2 weeks for the part to come in.

That's F-d up about those cables. Mine doesn't clunk (yet?) and I haven't gotten the cable notice so far. I guy here at work has a 03 SS and his was clunking and they lubed it. He's ok so far.
I only have 8k+ miles,so...

my '04 (10k miles) started the clunking noise back in Sep. knew what it was when it started, fath-in-law had '03 with same problem, and i am still waiting for the parts to come in. got the cable recall notice today as well. here is the TSB for the steering problem if you need it. 00-02-35-003D MAR 04 Steering Column - Clunk Felt in Steering Wheel
