Maybe he meant getting larger long tube such as 1 7/8 and bigger diameter collectors or scavenging with an x pipe but these trucks get a decent gain from stock manifold to long tubes. Remember engines are air pumps, volumetric efficiency is the name of the game

Max potential horsepower is volumetric effiencincyXrpmXcubic inches
Engines are just a bunch of equations from intake to the exhaust

Theoretically 1 7/8 are better at higher rpm, but again leads to what we both said more you pull in, more that has to leave... Most nbs trucks came with 75 or 80mm throttle bodies, in my case im running an intake that can pull much more air as well as a 92mm throttle body, not getting into exact math but it is a load more air that has to go somehwere... In a hurry!!! Hell 1 5/8 primary long tubes will flow better than a stock manifold, im goin to run 1 7/8 but then again my air intake sounds like a vacuum at this point too.... From what ive read, seen, etc the bigger the primaries the higher in the curve you peak..... Oe manifolds are adequate for smaller cams and bolts ons, but theyre basically designed to provide peak numbers at lower rpms where average person who owns the vehicle is goin to drive it....

I don't disagree with you. I just can't justify shelling out $1000 to $1500 for headers and exhaust with everything but the CAI being stock. I'll be doing a cam in the spring and I'll probably add headers then. For now, and with winter approaching, I think a tune, the CAI and a cat back system will do.

Tune alone will wake things up quite a bit.... The speed engineering headers are less than 300 unkess you get y pipe, then theyre $349(iirc), if youre planning on a cam why not get the headers out of the way, if youre going witb headers, the you dont have to worry about it and exahust will be done...just food for thought!!!

If youre donna do a cam swap in the spring why not wait on the tune, that way you only have to get tuned once?? Spend money youd spend on the tune on headers and roll with it til spring.... Unless youre gonna go catless then that changes everything

I want to see what kind of a difference it makes after just a tune. I've looked at the Speed Engineering headers but don't want to buy something made in China and they've never answered my question about where they are made. I've seen some comments in the header threads about problems with Chinese made exhaust parts. I've never bought anything that was Chinese made for my trucks but have had enough bad experience with other items that I don't care to mess with them.
