Default Any Exhaust Gurus Around Here?

I have tried an MagnaFlow exhaust, but the highway drone was too loud for my tastes, so I went back to stock. But I had an idea, since the stock system does so well at being quiet, why not just add some capacity to it by doubling the mufflers? Stock, the SS has dual pipes that feed a single muffler with a single pipe out (one of the tubes coming out of the muffler is a resonance chamber). So what do you think, would making a dual exhaust system with stock mufflers work, or would changing the locations and flow rates and pressures screw everything up? By the way, I have a Radix, so the extra exhaust capacity would be useful.

Why dont you try an HD muffler?
daul in, daul out, plus I have the one off my truck sitting in the garage with 1800 miles on it

I think it would work as long as you used an x-pipe to balance the flow.

OK maybe??? But no right angle bends in the pipes. A x-pipe would likely be beneficial as mentioned. The HD muffler must be similar if not identical to your stock muffler.

Does your Magnaflow have the resonators in front of the muffler? If not I think you may be able to add the resonators from Magnaflow but I don't know if that will cure the resonance for you. Try Magnaflow and see what they have to say.

Default exhaust,,

I run an exhaust shop and am a magnaflow dealer and have seen it all,
it's hard to get past the resonance no matter what you do. my truck is
perfectly quiet at hwy speed but resonates around town at 1500-1800 rpm, i just pull the shifter down to 3rd and it's great, but of course burns more fuel.
what i have noticed is with 6.0 litres, the smaller case mufflers make more sound but have less resonance'but that would give better performance too.
So.... put 2 small body magnaflows and 2 separate tail pipes behind them and you should have the grunt and less resonance.
I'm in a rush now or I'd give part #s.
which magnaflow did you install.
also, some of the dualin/dualout magnaflows have a truex core, which is an x pipe built into the body of the muffler. with 2 separate t/pipes this would be a good setup

David Cairns tested out the new model magna catback on his SS truck. It had 2.5" pipes, dual 4" round resonators. But that model did have the smaller 5x8 case main muffler.

I'm planning something similar to that catback using 5x8 oval mufflers for resonators and the 5x11x22" case muffler to finish it off.

Talking

you know i got tired of the drone as well. i have gutted cats which makes some more noise. i went to two dynomax super turbos and yes in town it can be a little noisy at times. but it is dead quiet on the freeway though. are you after the facory quiet. if so if you ever find it and it works out i wanna know. i think i would love to be silent--but deadly/
