ok i think i want gears but dont know which ones; like has been discussed many times. but what will determin what gear i get is what rpm that gear will make me cross the 1/4 mile. i want to cross the 1/4 mile close to 6000rpm's in 3rd gear. i have 285/60/16 on the truck and believe they are just a little smaller than stockers. so what i am asking is what gear would be best for this.

also what is the real diffrance in gas mileage. i would like a number because this will also sway my decision. every body says that it does not change that much well when you get 10 mpg in a daily driver every little bit helps.
any advice will be apreciated.

What is your quarter mile MPH right now? And why do you only get 10mpg?

 

Try this calculator...
Use the GMAT/MX0 for trans and select your stock and 4.10 ratios. You will see the differences.

Honestly, you will need a much steeper gear to finish @ 6000 in third. A near 30" tire like yours will yeild a ~120 mph 3rd gear even with 4.10s.

Find you current MPH and your desired MPH and select the ratio that gets you where you want to be. If you are that adamant about 6000 rpm and third a smaller tire would be cheaper and more appropriate for race only. You will not sacrifice street use as much this way
