Default Another Exhaust Thread (Questions)

O.k. fellas, tell me what you think

What are the best flowing mufflers on the market right now? What is the best setup for a '01 4.8L V8, true duals, single in/single out exhaust, or single in/dual out exhaust? Whichever one you suggest what brand do you suggest for that particular setup?

Currently I have a Magnaflow single in/dual out exhaust on my truck. Not sure what series/part#, the dealership I bought the truck from had it on when I purchased it. Anyway, I like the sound but I'm not sure if it's the best setup for my truck.

Not overly loud, probably pretty close or a little louder than what I have now. I do still have my cats.

i doubt this will give you any extra performance but i would look at the dynomax ultaflow's. they are a strait thru design so they flow pleanty and with cats might be the "not overly loud" you are looking for.

what is loud is deferent to everyone but i have heard full exhaust with just cats and no mufflers and it wasn't too far from what i would call "not overly loud" with a couple of those ultraflows i think it would have been just right for me.

Cool, I'll have to look into the Dynomax Ultraflow's.

Parish, what kind of setup with the Dynomax, single in/single out, true duals, single in/dual out? Do any of these setups have any performance benefits?

In my opinon you already have an improvement over stock and as long as your comfortable with the sound level I'd just leave it be and put the money some where else. If you do make a change you might gain or loose some, but I doubt you'd even feel it either way. I personally have had three mufflers and a bullet resonator on my truck in the last 7 months trying to get the powerful rumble without it roring inside the truck. I ended up with a 1 in 2 out dynomax super turbo and a 12" bullet behind the Y-pipe.

But damn, it's got a pretty bad drone in the cab at mid range RPM. Probably can't do anything about that, huh.

I'm going to be putting on a roll pan in the next couple months and was thinking about dumping the exhaust after the rear axle (just to keep it out of sight). Will this cause the exhuast to be a louder if I do that?

i agree with jwrench, spend you cash on something else, if you think what you have is too loud the duel ultraflows will probably be louder and droping at the axle will also make it louder

Oh yeah you can get rid of the drone very easy. Call up jegs and order a 289-24222. That's a 3" X 12" dynomax bullet race muffler. Have it welded in at the front end behind the Y-pipe.
