Default All the questions you may have been hesitant to ask.....

I know I was, so I'm asking now....
♦are the LM4 and L33 blocks the same?
♦what's the best cam for a DD and longevity? Concern for the beating on valve train from an aggressive lobe.
♦what's the real foe of gas mileage; a large port or a large valve?
♦how much power does a 4L80e really eat compared to a 4L60e?
♦is an LM7 cam installed 4* advanced best for low end and longevity signing off a 4k...............

There may be more questions in the forthcoming weeks and months ahead, but this is all I can pull out of the air right now. I really appreciate everyone's collective knowledge here, because I sure don't know hardly anything...................

Not that it helps you, but it will tide you over until someone actually answers your questions LOL.

1. Similar yes but different enough that they have different part numbers.
2. All a matter of opinion because everyone's taste is different. Something like the comp cams 54-412-11 Seems to be a popular mild DD type cam.
3. Not sure how to answer that as there are many factors to consider in port Volume, Design, and relative Valve size. It's not about peak numbers It's about the flow under the curve.
4. None. maybe 5HP, Its been proven on the Dyno. The Gear ratios make it feel different compared to a 60E that it replaces.
5. A Factory LM7 cam is best replaced with custom spec'd cam for whatever you are trying to achieve.

I would suggest reading up on heads and cams to better understand how they work together and what to look for in an efficient package.

The late John Lingenfelter himself said, "you can run the best camshaft in the world under a poor set of heads and you will have an engine that runs like a dog, but you can run an average camshaft under a great set of heads and you will have a great running engine." Or something along those lines...

Thanks Brick- all I've been doing is reading, have books on the subject. Starting to conclude a comp cams 259 ground on 114 LSA would be the ticket with some small heads on a punched out 5.3...................
