not going to find a whole lot of help here because the 8.1L doesnt have anywhere near the aftermarket support that the LSx engines have. and you can get more power out of a built 6.0 than the 8.1 or you could probably even boost the 4.8 and get the same power.

its not an easy swap by any means

I would personally go with a 6.0 over the 8.1. Despite what my buddies say, displacement isn't always the way to go.

it is true that there is no replacement for displacement IF technology is equal. in this place there is no comparison.

The poor 8.1L getting kicked around like a red headed step child.....

I agree though.....way more support and easier swap just to go with a 6.0L.

if you already have it, the marine guys use them alot in boats. but if you havent get a 6.0L truck engine and swap in.

there is a thread on here somewhere about what it takes to swap one in as everyone on here would love to have a twin turbo'd built 496 in their truck.

best i remember on a 1/2 ton truck, basically the entire front half of the frame would need to be replaced with the one from a 3/4ton or 1 ton HD truck. and there was some other stuff but that was the most obvious and labor intensive

I heard it bolts right in if you use the 4L80, but an allison is completely out of the picture due its emense size on a 1500. A good loose convertor can make up for some of the problems of not having a 6-speed, and it works with your factory computer.

Or if you still want big cubes you can poke and stroke a 6.0 to over 408ci and a 6.2 to over 418 ci. But the engine will not last much past 100,000 miles becouse of the short piston design. I think the 6.2 can get to 434 easily, but longetivey will not be there even if you baby it. I would do the 408-418 combo becouse its the easiest, and life is not terrabley bad if you want big CI's.
