Default .600 lift cam and 1.85 ratio tockers?

It's been recommended that I skip the HS rockers with the 408 build up and grab a set of Comp Pro Mags since they are adjustible. Makes sense to me, but the only ones I can find for the LS1 are 1.85 ratio.

My cam is 236/230 .600/.600 114lsa. Seems like that ratio would put me at .653 lift. I'm running APE race heads and chose the came on the best flow lift for the heads.'

What do you guys think?

Sounds like you need to find a different rocker, that may be too much lift to make pwer where you want. If the heads are made to flow well at 600 lift or so I would definatly stick right there.

The VHP/Crane 1.79's are supposed to be adjustable... They open at a rate of 1.79 for the initial part of the 'stroke', then max out at around 1.72 - so you won't get a drastic increase in lift at the valve...

That is a lot of lift. The cam lobe profile may not allow you to use anything other than 1.7 if is too agressive. It is going to be hell on springs too.

I think the springs could be a problem also.

What about piston to valve clearance?

He is building a whole new motor with dish pistons so it shouldn't be too much of a problem, but I would definately check that. I think that marc_w is on to something though. I would definately keep that lift in the sweet spot for the heads.

Springs wouldn't be an issue and I'm pretty sure the valve clearence would be okay, but I don't want mess up the sweet spot.

I'm definitely not stepping above the stock ratio. I'm probably leaving in the stock set.

as far as the sweet spot goes, you can't really go by just peak #'s either. Your truck would only be at .600 lift at an extremely small fraction of the time. Do you have flow #'s for above 6000 rpm too? Look at them, and see if they dip down after .600 at as fast of a rate as it climbed up to .600(if you know what I am saying), then going a higher lift could still help you because you would have more flow more of the time, even though your max lift wouldn't be at peak flow. Your average lift might still be at more flow. I don't know if I did a good job at explaining this or not, but I hope you know what I am trying to get at.

Stock rockers probably would not be a bad choice though. One less thing to worry about.
