My setup is a little milder than yours, but I've got 30+ passes in 4wd this season, along with about another 20 4wd launches on the street since I got my 6.0 up and running in march. No adverse affects at all as of yet. Give it a shot, you'll love it.

Does that slow down your top speed?

Ive beat the **** out of my truck in 4wd with my various setups over the years. When I was running my 418 stroker motor with a 4k stall I never had any problems other than lack of traction

Also being stupid(was pissed off) I was pulling my 74 bronco on a trailer and launched my truck in 4hi(flashed the converter to over 5000 lol) and still didnt break anything even though all 4 tires were chirping and sliding.

The biggest killer of 4hi launching with power is loss of traction and the tires start chattering you will break a trans output shaft.

It does kill the top end a little bit. Some people have good luck with launching and immediately hitting the 2wd button and it will shift out at the 1-2 shift. I never could get mine to shift out of 4wd under power but some people have had good luck with it.

If you couldn't break it, it can't be broken, lol I wondered about switching to 2WD after launching. I was just fearful of doing so under so much load. The only other way I'll be able to do this is to pull it down into 1st, feather the throttle until about 25 MPH, and then go WOT and move the shifter to 3rd. I wonder if I'd loose more feathering it off the line in 2WD than I would loose on the top end in 4WD?

Im very hard on my stuff some times but there are people out there who I think just try to tear stuff up and have had better luck at destroying things although my destruction resume is quite lengthy

Only people Ive seen blow teh tcase on here is stock48 who was running over 1000hp through it, and a couple tards playing around in 4lo. Try launching in 4hi and as soon as you get moving hit the 2wd button and see what it does. If youre lucky it will shift into 2hi when the 1-2 shift happens if not(like me) it will stay engaged until you let out. The light will jsut continue to flash until it finally shifts back into 2hi.

Try it out and see. Your trap speed will be down in 4wd, but you will 60' MUCH better (which will net you a better ET). In general, I think you lose about 2mph in 4wd vs. 2wd. I can't attest to that though, since with an open rear, I can't even come CLOSE to hooking in 2wd.

I wasn't throwing stones. I was honestly taking comfort in knowing that you hadn't broken yours I may just give this a try. 2 MPH on the top end is a small sacrifice for getting out of the hole.

Get some tie rod sleeves to to make your inner tie rods stronger and prevent flexing. And if your launch is real rough, you can add limiting straps/chains to help keep it under control.

I was under the impression that it would not shift out of 4x4 at WOT, and that you had to lift for that to happen...

Pretty sure mine shifts out, the light changes to 2HI and all. I remember Trever1T saying that if he pushed the 2HI button to soon he would roast the rear tires. So it obviously works for him, lol.
