What pistons are you gonna use in this? Where do you want your compression to be?

I'll be using a auto tec piston most likely. Flat top with valve relief. I'm letting the guy at the machine shop order for me however, and he can order from a couple different places. He does the machine work for all the hot rod shops in the Longview area. As far as compression goes, I really don't know. Not too familiar with compression. I'd like to not have to run 91 all the time, I know that much lol!

Flat tops and 243/799 heads are gonna make for some high compression. You need to find out what cc dish they are. Guessing 2-3cc if just valve reliefs.

Ha forgot about the classic 07s.

I say the stock 317s with the cam in the 4.8. Hard to say anything, you really don't know what's going on with the short block build.

And then the 87 octane thing...good luck man

If you want to stick with low octane fuel then don't go beyond an LQ9's 10:1 more or less. As mentioned above you need to see what cc those pistons are and then how far out the bore they end up sticking out..... plus head gasket and of course chamber volume to figure out your actual compression ratio. You are probably best off sticking with the 317 head and a mild cam... Mid range torque is a lot more fun than hp at 6500 in a heavy truck anyhow. If you have the XR265 already just run it.. its small but a decent improvement over the stock LQ4/LQ9 stick. No point reinventing the wheel here lol.

Haha... basically wrote what I just said below you lol. Yeah GM annoys me with their stupid model year split stuff all the time.. never know what someone actualy has but at least this guy did specify. And why does it seem like everyone has an 07..... lol.

Should be able to get away with 87.. mild tune in an LQ9 and it plugs along with it with no real knock retard.

Best to ditch the 60e & swap in the 80e before you blow that thing up and...you will
