Default 5.3 vs 5.7

Hey, i was just wondering a couple things about the 5.3 and 5.7 engines. how come it seems, f-body guys stick a cam in and w/ free flowing exhaust and intake, there pushin 350+rwhp, but w/ the same mods on a 5.3L we'd probably be hittin near the 300rwhp mark? just lookin for an explanation.

thanks,

thanks,

Heads and tuning mostly. I wouldn't compare rwhp numbers between the two personally. Get a baseline dyno for your truck and go from there. I think you would find that your hp/tq increases would be about on par with the increases a Fbody given the same mods. If you were to drop in a LS1 you would not dyno as high as a car because you have alot more powertrain loss in the truck.

The 5.7 ls1 is very underrated. I think it's rated @ 305 hp and many put 29X at the rear wheels stock.

Yeah, rated at 305HP but most Autos do 290-310rwhp and sticks can go as high as 315rwhp bone stock. That is essentially a 350HP motor.

So what exactly is the difference between the 310 HP LS1 in the camaro and the 350 HP LS1 in the corvette?

I don't think much... I used to hear F-body guys saying that GM underrated the F-bodies so that people would have an excuse to lean towards the 'more powerfull' Corvette.

I think the driveline loss between the F-bodies isn't that much different. I imageine it is about the same % loss as a Vette. The rearend takes more power, and the longer driveshaft. I think it is a combo of the smaller displacement, heads, compression, and smaller cams.

The intake path from the filter to the throttle body was obstructed on the F-body. This seemed to be GM's way of restricting power on the F-body, and why 10-15rwhp gains were seen from a airlid swap on a stock car. As far as the motor, no difference.
