Hey guys....
Got another problem to share with yall...

Ok the ole 5.3 has always had the tick on start up and when warmed up..
Nothing major, now its really Ticking at anything above 1500 rpms.. with no load or load..

It pulls timing like crazy sometimes... but in boost its a hit and a miss...

This just started.. ive tried changing the VE Tables and timing... nothing helped.. ITs runnin rich also....

I ran it in Closed Loop and got the fuel straighted out in Vaccum but lean in boost.. but the Tick/Knock is still there


I pulled the Passenger Side Valve cover since the noise was coming from what it sounded like good ole Number 7..

Goin to do a leak down test on all the cyls and compression test....


165k miles and it looked new under there.. everything was tight.. Springs and rockers.
Goin to put the torque wrench on everything when i get home..

Might pull the pan and see if i have any suprises in there..

Does anybody have any ideas?

I was thinkin about a LQ4 and ARP bolt it and start over...

 

How long does it take you guys to do a Engine R&R???

 

Oil level check out ok obviously??

 

mine makes a horrible ticking noise, I have complained about it since ever but it drives me nuts. As far as I know it has no effect on my performance.

 

710 checks out good....
I think its ticking loud enough to screw with my timing.... it has horrible KR...

 

This aint just your normal ticking.... its about as loud as a small exhaust leak.. except more of a metal sound..... kindof hard to explain..

its loud enough that my Girlfriend noticed it.......

 

Mine sounds like that too, my gf can't hear anything mechanically, lol. My passenger side makes more sound than the driver's side. 918's..

 

Well if it's got tons of KR that would cause a pinging sound. Why is it knocking?
