Exclamation 5.3 still eating oil

I have a 2006 sierra with an L33 5.3 engine. The motor has burned oil since new. GM said it was normal and would not do anything. I do not notice smoke all the time from the tailpipe. I notice the "check oil level" warning ever 1000 miles.
Has anyone figured out what is wrong with these engines? I know that I have red about many others having this same problem.

My problem seems to be like this: I change the oil, drive about 2000 miles and I start to notice smoke on start up after sitting. A couple days after this starts, I get the warnings. I add a quart of oil and drive another 1000 and it starts to smoke on start up and I get the warnings again. This is time to change the oil. 3000 miles. And it starts all over. It has done this for 170,000 miles now....

Please tell me that someone has a lead on what went wrong in these engines from the factory and why is GM not liable????

have you tried changing out the valve stem seals? Ive heard that some of them were crap. I just started having the blue ghost once in a while in my 02 with 120k.

There was a class action law suit and by the time it was settled and terms were agreed to, most owners were over the 100,000 mile mark.

My '00 has done it since I bought it in 2004. I just top it off when the low oil light comes on because it isnt long after that the change oil light comes on.

PCV issues also with the original fixed orfice valve cover. Between that and stem seals would probably solve all issues. I would try just the valve cover first as it's cheap and easy to swap.

I know your aggravated but damn you got a 170k on her so far !

Like said the valve seals and Pcv system are the culprit .

You could have a ford that has spark plugs gald in the head / break in two and not have the power you do now.

What can you tell me about this lawsuit? I had brought this oil consumption to the dealers attention while it was still under warranty and GM said it was normal. This should be in my service record from the dealership that I had problems within 3/36 warranty. Would this help me any? I mean the problem has been there for almost 7 years now. No matter how many miles are on the truck now; if they finally have a solution it should be fixed!!!

What is involved in this valve cover swap? Is there a certain part number I need to buy? Both valve covers I take it?

Any new valve cover is the latest redesign. They explain a good deal on the Camaro link in the other link, lol.
It's an easy swap, remove coil packs and 4 bolts. You only need the drivers side.
