Default The 5.3 from hell!!!!

I have been building a 5.3. This damn thing keeps eating bolts!! First one was a main cap was never close to spec was on torqued at 25 ftlbs when it broke. I was fine with that one. Got the short block done was putting the heads on with arp head bolts was torquing the bolts by the lifter valley one of those broke. Then I was pissed.took a couple days off from it. The last thing was doing was putting the rockers on started them with my hands and first I did and I'll be damned a damn rocker bolt broke I took what was left of it out with my fingers. What the hell is wrong with this damn thing. Checked the rest of the hole and the bolts will only get one or two threads with my fingers before they are tight what do I need to to get this right?

I think chasing the threads with a tap would probably be a good place to start if you haven't already tried it. Good luck

Sounds like you need a new block or torque wrench.

Yeah man I'm close from pulling my stuff off this thing and putting it in my running 4.8 I have been really debating it. I'm sick of this motor it has gave me nothing but problems from the time I got it.

What torque wrench are you using? If it's a clicker type and you're using it close to it's min torque setting, the click is barely noticeable. I actually broke a head stud that way because I never felt the click. I bought an in-lb torque wrench so I could use it higher in it's range. Plus it's shorter so you have a shorter lever arm and are less likely to overtighten.

The rocker bolts are only 22 ft lbs for torque and they aren't tty. You must be over torqueing everything. Pretty hard to break an arp head bolt unless you are over torqueing. Your lucky the rocker arm bolt broke before the aluminum head cracked.

I know when I took this motor apart everything was so damn tight I broke a snap-on 1/2 inch ratchet. I used they old arp head bolts. It's not the head bolt I'm worried about the rocker bolts want thread in the heads I cleans them out and it seems like the bolts are just I little to big. I don't know why they came out of the motor
