5.3 heads on 6.0 block
#1
I have a chance to get a pair of 2001 5.3 heads at a killer price....
will the head swap do anything positive for me ??...it should bump compression slightly but is it true the 5.3 heads don't flow as well as the 6.0 (iron) heads

Don't 6.0 heads have a 70cc chamber and the 5.3 have a 61cc chamber?
You will likely endup with something north of 10:1 compression...which is cool but you'd need 91+ gas and a tune. I posted up a pic of the iron heads and the exhaust port looks totally different than the aluminum heads...
I would raise an eyebrow about the intake valve size on the 5.3 head for the 4" bore of the 6.0, I think it may be a bit too small. Ideally I would look for a set of centerbolt LS1 heads as the chamber is a bit bigger and will not raise the compression too much AND they have larger intake valves.

Call the guys at either Absolute Speed or TEA both offer a CNC ported 5.3 head that will give you whatever compression and airflow you need.I bet either one can offer helpfull information. With there CNC modifided chamber you can lower the compression to be more compatable with forced induction.
