Been out the last few nights getting my timing dialed in doing 4wd launch 1/4 mile runs.
Ever since the new converter, this thing is hard to keep in a straight line for most of 1st gear. Feels like it gets real light on the drivers side wheel right at first, then rocks back and forth, alternating front wheel traction. Roads were cold last night, and I launched, the front instantly shot from 12:00 to 10:00! I had to let out to get it straight.
Do you think putting a spool in the front would help?
I have about 150 lbs i will be removing from the back for less weight transfer, did that help you Parish?
Also I have stiffer springs in the back that help with wheel hop and weight transfer.
Any other tips?
Never thought 4wd traction would become a problem!

Yeah, I think it was only on the autotrac thing. My Z71 would do really bad things sometimes on snow and ice when I spun the tires. The abs would kick in and then the brakes would not engage until the wheels stopped spinning. Put me in the ditch twice

i dont think they sell a spool for the 1500 front.
in my last truck i had a teriable bucking action at the launch that i am prey sure was caused my too much weight transfer. it would start to hook, pull some weight off the front, then peal out some and loose the transfer, then the weight would come back down on the front and hook hard, then start all over. it was prety violent and hard on parts.
dont launch in autotrack if thats what you are doing, it is MUCH smoother to take off in 4hi. when you launch in auto it gives the rear wheels a chance to get spining.
the other thing you can do is reduce weight transfer, i droped my truck an 1" or or, that seemed to help a ton. i also got some sticker tires and that helped some too. if your pealing out and turning a little but it is smooth then i dont think that is much of a problem, but the bucking thing needs to be avoided.

IMHO,
You would not want a spool in your front end without disconnectable hubs. I don't think anybody makes spools for IFS Chevy's for good reason: it would be a bitch to turn it even in 2wd. I nice LSD in the front wouldn't hurt your steering much, but that would be a last resort after sticky tires, lowering, playing with air pressures, etc. because of the cost.
Dayum, that's one sweet truck!

My bucking action went away with my 2" rear drop (just like parish8). I think it made the rear springs a little softer, causing the rear to squat more and hook. I launched in auto4wd after that issue was taken care of. When I had stock rear height, I had some rough starts with weight transferring to each corner and allowing the opposite corner to slip.
I'd think you would want as much traction from the rear as possible, so you aren't needing the front open diff for asistance as much. I bet you are pulling to the side because that one front wheel is getting the full power output.

I am launching in 4hi. It doesn't seem like a back and forth bucking, but more of a real bad torque steer that takes a second to get control of. Does yours do that parish?
I think weight transfer is definately a bad thing in a 4wd. First, I'll pull the spare, tailgate, hitch, and spare winch, and see if that helps the weight transfer.

So you just took out the 2" block in back? Didn't mess with the front torsion bars any?
