You are the man, good job! You will need a shift kit and/or Edit that thing to firm up the 4L80. It will always be a bit softer then the 60 due to how it shifts the solinoids.

Its been explained to me that the 60 turns one off and then turns another on to shift. But the 80 turns them on in sequence and leaves them on, just one after the other. Thats why its difficult to get it to "snap" the shift as easy as the 60. But it will handle everything you throw at it.......or it should, we are talking about you now

Congrats, I'm anxious to see the difference between the 4.8/4l60e stock times and the 6.0/4l80e times.

Picked up my 4l80e and converter late yesterday,I plan to start monday on my conversion. The transmission is a BTE street-strip version with a 3500 stall lockup converter. The builder was excited he said the transmission was "banging every every shift including 4th on the dyno" he said"this tranny really rocks"so now I'm excited.I'm going to try running my 3.73 gears to see how good the Tahoe launches, but I think a set of 4.56 gears are in my future.

Any luck with getting Edit?
so far i really like the converter, i was hoping for something real mild and it is. something that is going to throw my perception way off is i am keeping this truck quiet, i think loud exhaust would make this converter feel much looser.

i am prety sure i am all set with edit, i got the benchtop cable and did a read and it worked fine. my big problem is with atap, i blurnt up my laptop a month or so ago and everysince then i have been fighting trying to get atap to work. right now i have the latest atap, new cables, the newest software and a new laptop. i have no serial ports and have been trying diferent usb to serial adapters and everything else works but not atap. i am going to run a serial into my house and try the serial port on my PC and see if that works. I NEED ATAP TODAY!! it is time to tune!!

if i can get the pc in the house to work i may have to find a laptop with serial to borrow so i can do some tuning. my plans for today is to get the 4wd to work, finish the nitrous set up and a couple of other loose ends, clean the garage and then tune tune tune, if the weather holds i could have this thing running prety good before monday. suppose to snow though

See if you can find a PCMCIA serial card. I'm sure someone makes one. It will probably have two serial connectors as well, so thats a plus. Other option is to find an old laptop just for autotap. Get one w/ a broken sscreen, mount it under your seat, and use a dash mounted 7" LCD monitor for it. I've been looking at a 7" touchscreen that does 800x600 resolution to mount on a flexible arm.

That's a good idea BigTex .. I would fear the ricer look then though.

Parish .. you should consider EFILive for tuning, it refreshes so much quicker than ATAP. You will get about 80-90 frames to 5 frames of ATAP using 10-12 counters on ATAP and 24 on EFILive. Really .. it is that much quicker.

EFI live sounds better. I'll look into it too.

I don't want the ricer look either, but if I could have PC in the truck with a small monitor that could be moved where I wanted it, I'd do it. Just think, autotap anytime you want, listen to MP3s, watch DVDs or other MPEGs, mapping / navigation, etc... Add a wireless connection, and copy files / browse the net from your driveway. I'm tired of having to setup my laptop every time, then gather up all the cords and cables when I'm done. Hmmm... Add a couple of those cheap USB webcams and you could toss out needing a cameraman and normal video camera.

The wireless from the driveway is nice ... that makes it super easy to move files, grab stuff you need for viewing. Check sites for info while your jacking with your truck, etc ... and osmeone today said they would smack someone for having a wireless network. He seemed feble minded so I didn't bother.
