4.8 kills 6.0

Re: 4.8 kills 6.0
Nobody has it quite right yet. My "old" 2001 2500HD 6.0L/4L80E would only 16.7-17.2 stock in a quarter mile depending upon time of day and temp. With the Powerdyne supercharger making 7psi boost the best time was 15.38 in the quarter.
Here are the reasons:
1. weight, the 2500HD is 5,800-6,300 lbs
2. high ratio first gear (total grunt killer!)
3. torque management is ******* anything below 1/3 pedal
The 6.0L makes good torque from idle up, but not enough to compensate the disadvantages. A 4.56 rear gear would really wake it up (and suck gas). My new stock 2003 2500HD Dmax/allison is just as fast if not faster than the 6.0L stock. The only disadvantage with the stock diesel is waiting till 1,600-1,800 rpm for the turbo to spool up. My first tank commuting in traffic yeilded 18.3 mpg, with me playing with it at least half the tank!
P.S. Anyone happen to know the going price of a Powerdyne supercharger (chevy 4.8, 5.3, and 6.0) with less than 8,000 miles and extra goodies?

There you go exactly, the weight difference.Theres the reason you pulled him ,what you called a kill. How about you guys take both trucks on the scale and you add to the back the weight difference, some quads or something,Then go run them.Glad your happy with your 4.8,i have no problem with them, unless you bought it to go fast, then why not go for the 5.3 it's the cheapest mod you could have done. After you spend your first $800 in mods go find your same truck w/5.3 and race him. Also compare fuel mileage, and when you are ready to dump it in a couple of years see which truck holds a better % of book value minus the dollars you spent on mods.
Man, this 4.8 bashing is getting a little old. Shouldn't we be picking on Fords and Dodges?
When I bought my truck, I couldn't find a 5.3 standard cab. Chevy or GMC. Since I was mainly going for looks and not performance, I didn't care which V-8 it had, as long as it sounded good with an exhaust!
Now, I want to mod my truck and make it faster. What's wrong with that? Oh, I forgot that I'm the biggest moron in the entire world for driving a truck with a 4.8 in it.
Grow the "F" up, man! Get over yourself and your truck.

I am with you Scream. I have a 4.8 and i love my truck. **** on all those haters out there. They just pissed cause we payed less for our trucks and get the same amount of gas mileage out of ours. Oh, and the quote made about $800 in a 4.8 and race a 5.3 and get spanked, let me know where that 5.3 is and we will see where the spanking is going to be handed tooo....

Looks like you spent closer to $1500 with your hood and tires to get your ET.This guy and others took there truck from the dealer to the strip.
RED '02 1500 RC, 2wd, 5.3, 3.42, G-80, 3pt hitch, electric brake controller, 14.81@92.50 STOCK
The statement holds true the $800 5.3 option is the best bang for the buck. You will say you dont care about resale but when the time does come you will take it in the shorts major.

Re: 4.8 kills 6.0
I come on this board and constantly see you(gonzo6.0) making **** comments about 4.8's. Others do it in jest, even us 4.8 guys. Most of us realize we are at a dissadvantage with the smaller engine. I for one did not realize at the time there was an option on v-8's or I too would have gone for the 5.3.Thats my bad, I plan to make the best of what I have. I might even do a motor swap one day, but thats on down the road. What I dont understand is your constant hard on to bash on other peoples rides.Grow up a little.Oh...by the way, it's not 4.8's that suck...it's more like you suck, for being such an *** to people on this board because thier engine is not up to your standards I guess in the early days, anyone that built a 350 or 327 was an idiot too. They should all have built bigblocks.Trust me Gonzo6.0,theres a 4.8 out there that can out run you. There is allways someone faster.Geez...do some people on this board think we are the only ones out there working on and modding these trucks??
