Default 4.8/5.3 flywheel

does anyone know of any lightweight flywheels that would fit the 5.3 (or 4.8 - from what i understand, they use the same one)?

and just to clarify: i mean flywheel, not flex plate - i have a manual transmission.

the basic story: i'm swapping from a 4.3 to 5.3 and keeping the manual trans. i figured since i'll most likely have to buy a flywheel somewhere anyway, i may as well find a lighter one.

any help is appreciated! thanks.

cool. thanks.
the parts guy did say the 4.8 flywheel will work with the 5.3, i was just trying to find a lightweight one to help throttle response, starter life, & of course - more power to the wheels!

the only thing i've been able to find so far is a McLeod unit, but it's just as heavy - maybe a couple pounds off (no really worth $350)

Why would you want a lighter flywheel? They usually warp/crack easier, don't last as long and you have to put your foot into it more to maintain speeds. Especially going up hills or towing. Stick with a GM flywheel. You're wasting your time with anything else.

Yeah, it's just physics.

Being in a truck, and with a truck tranny, I'd just stick with the stock 4.8 flywheel. Durability is gonna be the name of the game, and you won't have any problems with that set-up.
