Default 4.10 gear ???s

I have a stock 5.3 ecsb with 3.42 gears!! I got beat pretty bad by a 04 Hemi last week and it opened my eyes up to start modding!! Well I have a chance to buy some 4.10 gears here in a couple of weeks, and need some info!!
What will be some of the major differences Im going to see with 4.10s??
I know Ill be running higher RPMs on the freeway, but will that hurt anything?
And I know Ill have to get reprogramed for the higher gears!! And I plan on taking my truck up to Allen in SA and have him do it.
I would just like to hear what I should be in store for with this swap....
Thanks ya'll.....

Mike

I LOVE 4.10's. ALL of my future GM's will have AT LEAST 4.10's in them. If wasn't running a 4wd, I'd be looking into getting deepers gears.

They definitely won't hurt anything, other than your rear tires. First gear is great. I get a little kick out of having the tranny shift up into third gear by the time you cross large intersections (at very light throttle).

I see about 2,100rpm around 65mph I believe. I get around 18.5mpg at that speed. That's with 30.5" tall tires.

i have them but not installed yet. i went from 3.42 to 3.73 and the 73's are great gears imo, but i look forward to 4.10's for a little more off the line power. i think once i get a converter i'll go back to 73's but till then, i want the most i can get off the line.

Anyone know what the cost is to get new gears installed? How hard is it to do yourself?

I would not do it myself unless I was very mechanicaly inclined and had done it before. Gear swap here in my area runs about $125-200
