Default 3.73's with posi

I'm leaning towards gears and posi as my next perf. mod. I'm wanting to swap out my 3.42's with 3.73's and chunk the limited slip for posi trac. Would I notice a big difference in perf? What are the typical time drops on E.T. when going from 3.42 limited slip to 3.73 with posi? Would this be a great set-up?

I wouldn't expect much improvement at all, maybe 2 tenths or so. I dropped my tire size down an inch and a half which is eqivalent to going from 3.42's to 3.65 rear and only noticed a marginal improvement. I'm not saying you won't get anything out of it, but it is a fairly pricey mod for the bit of improvement you will realize. How much can you get it done for including parts? I would think a cam swap or converter would be a better mod with your current set up. Also, do you have any computer (ECM) programming done? That would be a better mod as well. Just my two cents, and let us know how you make out.

I don't exactly how much off the 1/4 time but I did noticed nice improvement when I went from 3.42 to 3.73 on my 4.8 01.

i just installed the eaton on mine and went from 3.42's to the 3.73's. i havnt realyy got to mess with it yet as my torque converter i think went out on me. but just the little bit of drivin that i did. the truck pulss a hell of a lot better than it did with the 3.42's. it is a bit pricey though. in all probably ran me close to a thousand dollars
Eaton 328.00 shipped
install kit 100.00
gears ran me 100.00 bought them from amyracinrose.
thats 528 just for the parts.
and then it cost me another 457.28 to have it installed. so as you can see if you have the money its worth it. better than having a peg leg if you ask me. actually makes the truck more fun to drive

i bought mine off e-bay from power train parts. good guys to deal with i recieved it in a couple of days, and they answered all my questions.

The only thing I was sayin' is he already has a limited slip. I don't know if it is giving up or not, but mine still works great. I know after the clutches in the rear get worn that sometimes both wheels won't spin (one wheel peel!). Once my G80 starts to give up I will probrobly go with the posi as well. But as I said, it is pricey. You even saved about $100 or so by getting the gears used and still spent like $1000. What is going on with your converter anyway? And congrats on losin' the one wheel peel.

what about just getting the 3.73's now, would I still notice a nice improvement. Then use the rest of the $$ to get pulleys and maybe sway bars. Could I get all of that for $550? would that be a better idea because I have better gears and more hp and better stability?

yeah i was drivin today doin about 55 when it just quit going like it went into neutral. no bam or shudder just a lott of revving. coasted to a stop in a u-turn. and had it towed to my favorite trans shop here in town. hes gonna call me in the morning but they found no metal in the pan and the fluid was nice and clean. if it is the converter i need(want) to find a 3000 stall to replace it with. should i have mine rebuilt and restalled or buy a new one. i am i little strapped for cash as i just plopped down a 1000 for the rear end work.
