I have not used the MBRP. About 1 year ago I picked up an exhaust off a Duramax (they are an oddball size, between 3.25" & 3.5" diameter) I used the tailpipe (with an angle modification so the exit was more of a 90 degree) and I used the Duramax pipe in front of the muffler. I used a 3.5" single inlet & outlet Dynomax Ultraflo muffler. The pipe in front of the muffler was welded to the merge point of the factory Y-pipe. I did retain the Duramax 4 bolt flange right behind the Y-pipe.
My truck is a regular cab, short bed, with a Magnacharger equipped 5.3. The power is better with the current exhaust than it was before with a Magnaflow single 3" catback, and the summer running temperature dropped about 18 to 20 degrees on a 100 degree day. The sound is medium deep and throaty.
There are alot of like new Duramax exhaust systems just laying around exhaust shop scrap piles due to people buying the truck and immediately changing the exhaust.

Unless you are F.I. or running big cubes it will hurt your bottom end.

Well the gas 3/4-tons also have that large exhaust. On big difference is that here is no y-pipe on the 2500's. Just dual 3" pipes running parallel into the muffler. Thought this may be an F.Y.I. Although I'm sure it would be difficult to find or even make this stuff fit.

I built a 4" cat back with a dmax kit and it sounds and performs awsome. No noticable loss in low end. I think it looks like an awsome kit. I say go for it, LS engines love to breath.
